About Alastair
Alastair is a graduate of Macquarie University in Sydney, where he gained a BSc. in Computing Science.
He now builds software for Integrity, selecting his tools from among the set of:
Perl, C++, Java, Python (CGI and scripting), Javascript, Visual Basic and ASP, Prolog, Oracle PL/SQL, SQL, PHP with MySql and MS-SQL, and Apple's Filemaker 6-7. He also brings to us his experience with UML and CASE tools.
At Integrity, he is responsible for the set up and maintenance of servers, desktops and terminals on our network, and has set up networks for several of our other clients.
He is now rewriting the intranet at one of Integrity's larger clients, an American company who has “set the standard for service, knowledge and distribution in the electrical wholesaling industry”.
One of his favourite tools is Horde, a groupware framework based on PHP and Pear libraries. It posseses many modules and allows for granular permissions, quick installation and construction of modules and user/group based access.
Before joining Integrity he worked in a number of roles, including positions where he handled customer orders and complaints in a friendly manner, set up and operated Sound Reinforcement systems, and trained colleagues in the use of computer and telephone systems.
Among his hobbies he lists Problem Solving (both programming and lateral thinking style problems) and Ascii Art ^_^.
